this past week was a good one in terms of some good concerts. tuesday of last week was my second trip back to listen to some great jazz by The Chris Williams Quintet at Steamers Cafe in Anaheim. like i've said before, i love the atmosphere of the place and there are fewer things nicer than a hot cup of coffee in a glass, all while listening to some quality music.
saturday night turned out to be a night for an improptu orchestra concert at Chapman U in Orange. i have a friend who works there so thankfully it didn't cost me anything to hear a variety of pieces. the first part was interesting with pieces by Tomas Svoboda, Alan Hovhaness and Michael Daugherty. what i most appreciated was the second part though. Louise Thomas, a faculty member, played Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, op. 18. (no i didn't memorize that name.) if you haven't heard Rachmaninoff's stuff you're seriously missing out. this is just about "tears to the eyes" good.
it's interesting i've only talked about classical and jazz stuff here but it really isn't what i listen to for the most part.

looks like i'm slipping to once a month. that can't be a good average. i suppose sometime here i'll get into a good pace but i'm still trying to decide what i want this place to be. i know i can't keep pace with my once a day friends. maybe once a week? in any case i'll try to revisit it soon, or at least as soon as thing slow down again.
